Elmer T. Lee 100 Year Tribute Bourbon
From the Buffalo Trace Distillery who have given us such great and sought after whiskeys as Pappy Van Winkle, W.L. Weller, Blanton’s and Sazerac comes this very special bottle.
100 Year Tribute is a commemorative bottling honouring what would have been the one hundredth birthday of Elmer T. Lee, legendary former master distiller emeritus at the Buffalo Trace Distillery.
Prior to joining Buffalo Trace in 1949, then known as the George T. Stagg Distillery, Elmer served with the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II flying missions against Japan through 1945 and being honourably discharged in 1946. Proceeds from this limited edition bottling will go to the Frankfort VFW Post 4075 where Elmer was a member until his death in 2013.
After leaving the Air Force Elmer attended college, and graduated with honours in 1949. Upon graduation, he started work at the distillery where he was eventually named General Manager. He worked at the distillery until retirement, marking a milestone in his career with the creation of Blanton’s in 1984, the world’s first single barrel bourbon.
The 100 Year Tribute is a single barrel bourbon made using the same mash bill as the standard Elmer T Lee (and the Blanton’s range) but bottled at the slightly higher strength of 50% a.b.v. Only a very small allocation of this highly limited, one-time-only release bottling has been officially imported to the United Kingdom.
Tasting Notes:
To quote the distillery themselves: “The classic taste that Elmer would have loved, with a nose of maple syrup up front, a taste of creamy vanilla with berries, and a long finish of coffee, toasted oak, and vanilla.”
