2009 Cask #2091 10 year old Pedro Ximénez Puncheon

Nestled in the Valley of Forgue, deep in the East Highland hills is The GlenDronach, one of Scotland’s oldest licensed distilleries.

The GlenDronach is of true Highland style; a rich and full bodied spirit, perfect for long maturation in Spanish sherry oak. At The GlenDronach Distillery, they have carried forth the tradition of their founder James Allardice since 1826, maturing complex Highland spirit in the finest Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks from Andalucía in Spain. 

Pedro Ximénez casks impart rich, deep fruit flavours, whilst dry and nutty notes come from Oloroso casks.

Every expression of The GlenDronach Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky has been crafted for depth of colour; rich, full bodied complexity; and a long, satisfying finish.

Resting in the earthen floored, traditional dunnage warehouses of The GlenDronach Distillery is an exquisite selection of fine Spanish oak sherry casks, slowing maturing Highland Single Malt. Dating back as far as 1968, they have a rich selection of barrels, hogsheads, puncheons and butts to choose from. Only the most exceptional are personally selected by Master Blender Dr. Rachel Barrie each year, to celebrate and share the very best of the distillery’s character.

Whether they have previously housed sweet and rich Pedro Ximénez, dry and nutty Oloroso, or in selected expressions fruit laden Port from the Douro Valley; each cask presents uniquely remarkable characteristics whilst remaining distinctively of The GlenDronach. 

All exceptional casks are bottled without chill filtration for richness, at high strength and are naturally deep in colour.

Tasting Notes:

Colour: Copper gold

Taste: Fruitcake filled with toasted raisin, orange peel and almond develops into lingering gingerbread and ground nutmeg.

Nose: Crystallised orange melds with dark fruitcake, hazelnut and raisin, topped with marzipan and ginger.
