Sazerac de Forge

Sazerac de Forge Finest Original Cognac

£125

Sazerac de Forge used to be one of the most famous Cognacs in the world, it was amongst the first to be shipped to America, when it was sailed to New Orleans in 1783, a city that so took the drink to its heart that almost two and a half centuries later one of the cities favourite drinks, The Sazerac, still bears its name - though these days that drink is more often made with rye whiskey.

The brand, having been dormant since the 1960’s, was recently acquired and revived by the American company with whom it also shares a name, a company who in recent years have been responsible for bringing some of the most sought after spirits in the world to market, like Pappy van Winkle, George T Stagg, William Larue Weller and Sazerac Rye Whiskey.

Finest Original is the first release from the modern iteration of this producer, a deliciously elegant offering, incorporating cognac made from the rare grape varietals of Folle Blance, and Colombard, which were once widely used in Cognac production but which now account for around just 1% of  all grapes grown in the region. This is their attempt to recreate Cognac as it would have tasted before the devastating phylloxera epidemic of the 1870’s which forever changed the character of the noblest of French spirits. A unique offering, at an exceptional price, combining Cognac’s as young as seven years old with others that bare up to fifty years of age. A remarkable product indeed.

Produced in tiny quantities and available from only a handful of retailers this is your chance to get in on the ground floor of a brand that promises to become a modern classic, the exceptional line up of forthcoming expressions from this producer will redefine peoples expectations of what Cognac can be, we can’t recommend it more highly and urge you to buy it whilst you can.
